Pre-Departure Handbook

Dear All incoming exchange students and staff at our sister Universities!!

Thank you for choosing Kyung Hee University as your exchange program spot! We are more than happy to have you at our campus for spring semester and fall semester for those who come for one year! Every semester we have hundreds of exchange students from all over Europe, Oceania, North America and Asia. It is always exciting and thrilling to meet our international students.

Most of students have received the Certificate of Admission so far and those who have not received yet will receive soon once we get original applications. You need it to process your visa. (expect students from Lithuania, Lithuanian students need to get student's visa after they arrive here. You need have it before class starts!))

Important dates!
¡ÜWe offer Korean language course in IIE ( http://eng.iie.ac.kr/main.html ) while you register your academic course here at Kyung Hee. Korean course will be held 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday. It is very intensive course. So please make sure whether you can do both korean course and your own academic course. Let us know if you wish to take it before February. NO CHANGES AFTER THAT
¡ÜCourse list and syllabus will be given to you in January or late December hopefully
¡ÜPlease send us your flight schedule form to us until first week of February (August) at latest. There will be a University taxi driver waiting for you at the airport!
¡Ü25th to 27th of February : Access to the dormitory (If you would like to come earlier, you need to check the availability of room)
¡Ü27th of February : Orientation (Bring your passport, two Photos - if you haven't submitted) location - Office of International Affairs, Time - 16:00 (dinner will be served after orientation)
¡Ü2nd of March : The school starts
¡Ü6th of March : Final course request form should be submitted! NO CHANGES!
Course drop out week will be announced.

¡ÜKorean Language
I find that some of you wish to learn Korean language and culture when you have some free time.

Korea Foundation is an organization under the ministry of foreign affairs. You can learn Korea at night and you can meet many foreigners from various sectors.

¡ÜTravel
There are also some students who wish to travel to North Korea.
Yes, you can travel to Mt. Geum Gang - very beautiful mountain for one day, two days and three days. You need a copy of you passport.
You can also visit DMZ - De militarised zone. - we have a special price for DMZ tour, so feel free to stop by our office and get a brochure.
Also I saw some who wish to travel Asia. Please obtain Re-entry Permit before you depart Korea if you wish to come back to Korea. This is in case that during our holiday, you wish to travel to China, Japan...Hong Kong....

¡ÜFor mobile phone
Some already made "pre-paid" mobile phone. this is 58 korean won per 10 second. But we koreans, usually use a phone (18 won per 10 second) when you pay according to how much time you use the mobile phone. in order to make this type of mobile phone, please obtain "alien registration" as soon as possible. You need to apply for A.R. within 90 days of your arrival. But with this card, you can make this kind of mobile phone (cheaper per 10 second).

¡ÜWireless Internet
It is possible that you can use Wireless internet. we will give you some ID and Password after you arrive here, You can use this wireless internet in many places at the campus. The nearest one to the dorm would be the student cafeteria in front of the dorm.

in the bottom Nespot CM. two type "windonws xp / and windows vista" if you need any assistance, bring your lap top to our office OIA.

Complimentary Airport Pick Up

CIE will pick you up at the Incheon International Airport ( http://www.airport.or.kr/Eng/home.jsp ). Please send airport pickup request form with your exchange applications. It is highly advised that exchange students from same institution arrive at the same time with the same flight if possible.

For European Students (ASEM DUO Fellowship only for EU citizens)

DUO-Korea Fellowship Program provides fellowship grants for Koreans who wish to go to European countries and Europeans who wish to come to Korea for further study, research or joint lecture, funded by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development of Korea. Pairs of such Koreans and Europeans who wish to pursue academic opportunities in Korea , marched as exchange partners, are eligible for the application of this fellowship.

DUO-Korea Fellowship Program was established in 2001 with the aim of promoting exchanges of people between Korea and European countries (the 27 EU member countries only) on a balanced and permanent basis. In this respect, DUO-Korea requires that a PAIR (two persons) of students be exchanged in the framework of a cooperative project

The duration and the amount of the fellowships are standardized as follows: For students: 1 unit of six months for an amount of 8,000 euros for both students in a pair. Maximum duration for application is 1 unit. Maximum duration for application is 1 unit ( 4,000 euros for each students exchanged )

How to get to OIA at Kyung Hee :
1) Subway : Take subway line # 1 and get off at Hoegi Station. (about 800-900 Korean won). Walk to the campus (10 min) or take a shuttle bus #1 to the Entrance Gate (5 min / 550 Korean won) .
2) Taxi : Take a taxi and you can come to the Main Building (Bon Gwan in Korean pronunciation).

Taxi Stand locations: Taxi stands are located at the Passenger Terminal Arrival floor (1st Floor) between platform 4D and 8C.
The regular taxi fare from Incheon International Airport to Kyung Hee University ranges from 70,000 to 80,000 won. Regular taxis have a starting rate of 1,900 won while premium service taxis (mobeom taxi) start at 4,500 won.
